Derma Bella FAQ
General Facial Questions
Come with clean, makeup-free skin if possible — our esthetician can handle it for you if not. For best results, avoid retinols, strong exfoliants (AHAs, glycolic/lactic acid), and hair removal (waxing, shaving) for at least one week prior. Avoid excessive sun exposure in the days before your visit, arrive well hydrated, and let us know about any medications or skin sensitivities at the time of booking.
Focus on gentle cleansing, intense moisturizing, and strict sun protection (SPF 30+) for the first few days. Avoid makeup for 24 hours where possible, and skip harsh products (retinols, acids), sweating, saunas, and direct sun for 24–72 hours to let your skin recover and maintain results. Stay well hydrated from the inside out.
Most of our facials have little to no downtime. You may experience mild, temporary redness, warmth, or tingling that fades within hours. If extractions or stronger peels are involved, minor flushing may last a few hours. Treatments like Procell Microchanneling may require 24–48 hours of gentle aftercare. Your esthetician will walk you through post-care specific to your treatment.
Most facials are recommended every 4 to 6 weeks, aligning with your skin's natural regeneration cycle of approximately 28 days. However the ideal timing depends on your skin type and goals:
  • Normal or combination skin: Every 4–6 weeks
  • Oily or acne-prone skin: More frequent sessions initially (every 2–3 weeks) to manage oil and congestion
  • Dry or sensitive skin: Every 4–6 weeks with gentle, hydrating treatments
  • Aging or mature skin: Monthly sessions to boost collagen and minimize fine lines
Your esthetician will consult with you on your specific goals and recommend a treatment schedule.
Most of our facials are suitable for all skin types, including sensitive, dry, oily, combination, and acne-prone skin. Many treatments can be customized to address your specific skin concerns. If you are unsure which facial is right for you, we recommend booking a Professional Skin Analysis and Consultation first to save time and money finding the right treatments for your skin type and goals.
Welcome! We recommend starting with a Professional Skin Analysis and Consultation. Our licensed esthetician will assess your skin type, evaluate your concerns, review your current skincare routine, and develop a customized plan — saving you time and money finding the right treatments. The Bella Classic Facial is also a great, relaxing starting point that covers all the essentials for any skin type.

Infused with minerals harvested from the Dead Sea, this calming cream strengthens the skin barrier, reduces inflammation and redness, and helps regulate oil for acne-prone skin. Magnesium absorbs beautifully through the skin, supporting collagen and elastin production for improved elasticity — making it a perfect complement to any facial, especially anti-aging treatments.
CBD's natural anti-inflammatory properties work to calm reactive skin, reduce redness, and promote an overall sense of relaxation during your treatment — bringing your facial experience to a whole new level of zen. Simply select it at the time of booking.
This advanced treatment goes beyond exfoliation to repair cellular damage, promote cell turnover and reduce inflammation with 1.25% retinol, Co-Q10 and squalane. It's a great boost for both acne treatments and anti-aging facials.
Acne Treatments
Acne is a common condition that can occur at any age, affecting the face, chest, back, and shoulders when pores and hair follicles become clogged with oil (sebum) and dead skin cells, trapping bacteria and leading to inflammation, pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and sometimes deeper cysts or nodules.
Causes include genetics, hormonal changes, stress, certain medications, and some skincare products that can actually trigger breakouts rather than prevent them. For the most part, the myth that diet causes acne has been debunked — though some studies suggest a diet high in simple sugars and non-fat dairy products can trigger or increase an outbreak.
No — popping pimples can make them significantly worse. Pimples should never be opened or extracted except by a licensed professional due to the risk of further inflammation, trapped bacteria, and infection. Our esthetician performs safe, professional extractions as part of many of our facial treatments.
The best acne treatment is personalized — it depends on your specific acne type (blackheads, cysts, etc.), severity, skin characteristics, lifestyle triggers (stress, products), hormones, and your skin's response to past treatments. Sheri Kroupa, our licensed esthetician, will consult with you to tailor a treatment specific to your needs.
Chemical Peels
Chemical peels can be customized for most skin types. The strength and type of peel is selected based on your skin concerns, sensitivity, and goals. We recommend a consultation first if you have sensitive skin or have not had a peel before.
For maintenance, every 4–6 weeks is typical. For addressing specific concerns like acne or hyperpigmentation, a series every 2–3 weeks may be recommended initially. Your esthetician will advise on the right schedule for your skin.
Downtime varies by peel strength. Lighter peels may cause mild redness and light flaking over 2–5 days. Stronger peels may involve more visible peeling. Sun protection is essential after any peel treatment. Your esthetician will walk you through exactly what to expect based on your specific treatment.
Oxygen Facial with Glo2Facial™ by Geneo
Traditional oxygen facials push concentrated oxygen into the skin under pressure from the outside. The Glo2Facial™ by Geneo creates a CO₂-rich environment on the skin's surface, triggering your body to naturally send oxygen from within — leading to deeper, longer-lasting oxygenation, exfoliation, and nutrient absorption, all without discomfort or downtime. Typically you would need to combine two or more facials to get all the benefits of a single Glo2Facial.
Oxypods are a trademarked component of the Geneo Glo2Facial treatment. They are used to create CO₂ bubbles on the skin, generating a bubbly, nutrient-rich environment that signals the body to send oxygen to the area — naturally exfoliating dead skin and preparing it for serums.
The Light Ultrasound Experience (LUX) is a trademarked component of the Geneo Glo2Facial that uses ultrasonic micro-vibrations to smooth skin, boost circulation, and dramatically increase the skin's ability to absorb serums like hyaluronic acid and peptides — creating deeper hydration, better nourishment, and a glowing, refreshed complexion.
For optimal results, we recommend a Glo2Facial every 4–6 weeks, aligning with your skin's natural regeneration cycle. For specific concerns, more frequent facials may be recommended initially (2–4 weeks apart). Monthly sessions generally keep skin smooth, hydrated, and radiant.
The Glo2Facial is known for having zero downtime — you can return to normal activities, work, and even apply makeup immediately. Some people experience mild, temporary redness that fades within hours. For best results, avoid excessive heat (exercise, saunas) for 48 hours after your treatment.
Procell Microchanneling
Procell Microchanneling uses a stamping device to create thousands of microchannels in the skin, stimulating the body's natural healing response and collagen production. Unlike traditional microneedling which uses rolling needles, Procell's stamp method is more precise, creates less trauma, and dramatically reduces downtime. The microchannels also allow the Procell growth factor serum to penetrate deeply for enhanced results.
Results can be visible after just one treatment. For optimal and long-lasting results, a series of 3–6 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart is typically recommended, followed by maintenance sessions every 3–6 months. Your esthetician will create a personalized treatment plan based on your specific concerns.
You may experience mild redness and sensitivity for 24–48 hours following treatment. Most clients return to normal activities the next day. Avoid direct sun exposure, makeup, and active skincare ingredients (retinols, acids) for at least 24–48 hours. Your esthetician will provide full post-care instructions.
Dermaplaning
No — this is a common myth. Dermaplaning removes vellus hair (peach fuzz) which is fine and soft by nature. Shaving or scraping does not change the structure of the hair follicle, so regrowth will be the same texture as before. Many clients find the regrowth feels slightly blunt at first but quickly returns to its normal soft texture.
Dermaplaning is typically recommended every 3–4 weeks, aligning with the skin's natural cell turnover cycle. This allows the peach fuzz to grow back and the skin to regenerate fully before the next treatment.
Dermaplaning is generally well-tolerated, but we recommend avoiding it if you have active acne, rosacea flare-ups, or open skin lesions. A consultation with our esthetician will help determine if dermaplaning is right for your skin type and condition.
LightStim® LED Light Therapy
Red light therapy stimulates collagen and elastin production, boosts circulation, and targets fine lines and signs of aging — making it ideal for anti-aging treatments. Blue light therapy targets acne-causing bacteria, reduces inflammation, and helps clear breakouts — making it ideal for acne-prone skin. Both wavelengths can be combined with other treatments for enhanced results.
For best results, LED light therapy is recommended as a series — typically 6–10 sessions spaced 1–2 weeks apart initially, followed by monthly maintenance. It can also be added to any facial as an enhancement for immediate calming and collagen-boosting benefits.
Yes — LightStim® LED Light Therapy is completely non-invasive, painless, and requires no downtime. It is safe for all skin types and tones. You may be asked to wear protective eyewear during treatment.
Back-Cials
Back facials are suitable for most skin types and are especially beneficial for managing back acne (bacne), hydrating dry skin, improving texture, and relieving stress through massage. They are also great for anyone preparing for a backless event or swim season.
Every 4–6 weeks is recommended for general maintenance. If you are addressing back acne, more frequent sessions (every 2–3 weeks) may be recommended initially to get congestion under control, then tapering to monthly maintenance.
Wear loose, breathable clothing after your treatment to avoid irritating freshly treated skin. Avoid tight straps, excessive sweating, or direct sun exposure on the treated area for 24–48 hours. Moisturize daily and use SPF if the area will be exposed to sun.
Brow Services
Eyebrow waxing typically lasts 3–4 weeks, depending on your hair growth cycle, which can be influenced by age, hormones, and stress. Consistent waxing often leads to finer regrowth and longer-lasting smoothness over time.
Although everyone's pain tolerance is different, most people do not experience unbearable discomfort. Any pain is extremely brief and fades within seconds.
For waxing, we recommend letting your brows grow out for 4–6 weeks and stopping plucking or trimming for 2–4 weeks beforehand, so there is enough hair to grip and shape effectively. For tinting, 2–6 weeks of growth gives the best results. Avoid harsh exfoliants or retinoids on the skin around your brows for a couple of weeks prior to either service.
An eyebrow tint generally lasts 3–6 weeks, fading gradually as your brow hairs grow and shed. How often you need touch-ups depends on your skin type, skincare routine, sun exposure, and aftercare.
At-home brow waxing and tinting offer convenience and lower cost, but professional services provide precision, safety (hygiene and proper product use), customization to your facial structure, and expertise to avoid costly mistakes like over-plucking or skin damage — leading to more consistent, long-lasting, and natural-looking results.
