Frequently asked questions

Commonly asked questions about Acne and Acne Treatments.

Acne is a common problem occuring at any age that affects the face, chest, back, and shoulders when the pores and hair folicles of the skin become clogged by with oil (sebum) and dead skin cells, trapping bacteria and leading to inflamation, pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and sometimes deeper cysts or nodules.

Causes include genetics, hormonal changes, stress, medications and some skincare products actually cause acne rather than prevent it.

No. For the most part, that myth has been debunked. However, some studies suggest that a diet high in simple sugars and non-fat dairy products can trigger or increase an outbreak.

Acne is not life-threatening but it can be a significant health issue because severe cases can lead to permanent scarring, dark spots, and considerable emotional distress, impacting self-esteem and mental well-being.

No; it can make them worse. Pimples should never be opened or extracted except by a licensed professional because of the risk of further inflamation, trapped bacteria, and infection.

The best acne treatment should be personalized depending on your specific acne type (blackheads, cysts, etc.), severity, skin characteristics, lifestyle triggers (stress, products), hormones, and even your skin's response to past treatments.  Sheri Kroupa, our licensed esthetician, will consult with you to tailor a treatment specific to your needs.
